I got a raw deal, says Naidoo

2012-04-02 08:56

Mathew Naidoo (25), who was convicted of murdering Johan and Riekie Lotter along with their two children, has told a reporter that his side of the story was never told.

In an exclusive prison interview, Naidoo told the Sunday Tribune how he had loved the Lotters like his own parents and that he was to them the son they had never had in Hardus. He said he had no reason to kill them.

Naidoo said he would appeal against his two life sentences and said he was given a raw deal.

He told how he had loved Nicolette but that things had started to go wrong after he changed his mind about marrying her and she had not forgiven him for backing out.

He said he had felt he was too young and was without a stable job.

Naidoo said, however, that he didn’t want to talk about her, as he wanted to forget about her.

He did say, however, that she had a stormy relationship with her mother and had hated her father for always taking her mother’s side against her.

Naidoo said he believed Nicolette had every reason to kill her parents and had apparently frequently said she wanted them dead.

Naidoo told the reporter that he believed he had been used as a scapegoat. He also told how he met “the classy and elegant” Nicolette at a church event, and that he had gone because his friends knew he liked to date white girls.

He said he was having trouble adjusting to prison life and that he had nightmares about the evening that the Lotters were murdered.
