Idols: Dave’s album out within a month

2011-10-05 12:40

Idols winner Dave van Vuuren will release his debut album as soon as November 15 this year.

The “Free the Animals” band member will start recording with Universal Music immediately, according to the A&R consultant, Benjy Mudie.

This, much to the delight of Van Vuuren (21) who has repeatedly expressed the desire to make and perform his own music.

Mudie added: “Universal is very artist orientated so Dave will be able to do his own music.”

Van Vuuren became the first winner of Idols from Johannesburg, beating fellow finalist Mark Haze (28) in the smallest margin in Idols history.

According to M-Net publicist, Ingrid Engelbrecht, more than 1.9 million votes were cast between the recording of the top two on Friday 30 September and the close of the voting lines at 10pm on Monday.

“Dave secured 50.49% of the votes to Mark’s 49.51%” Engelbrecht said.

An emotional van Vuuren told City Press: “I was born ready for this, so I am more ready than I have ever been to take to the stage and show you guys music from the soul.”

Van Vuuren had previously stated he would marry his girlfriend if he won Idols and he intends making good on his promise by proposing to her as soon as he sees her again.

Van Vuuren walks away with R500 000, a customised Ford Fiesta, various home appliances, a fashion voucher, musical equipment worth R50 000 and a professional wireless microphone system worth R15 000.
