Idols’ Kelly wants to be a TV presenter

2011-09-08 13:21

Eliminated Idols top six contestant Kelly Fortuin is down but not beaten.

Kelly, who has just returned home to Cape Town, is already making plans to return to Joburg to pursue a career in TV presenting.

“I will be taking a little bit of time off to just rest, but soon I will be following up on all the contacts that I’ve made to help me achieve my goals,” she said.

The unsigned singer will not be entering Idols again next season as top 10 contestants are not allowed to enter the following year.

Instead, she will continue to perform at events in Tygerburg while she prepares for the big move up to Joburg again.

Her rendition of Estelle’s “American Boys” resulted in her receiving the lowest number of votes.

“I like the song I sang and I was very comfortable on stage, but obviously the rest of the contestants were better than me,” she says.

“I believe that I don’t have to be a winner in Idols to be winner. I’m still going to make it.”

To her, her biggest competition was Mark Haze and she believes the 28-year-old will be this season’s Idol.

“He’s a Capetonian so I’m also going to root for him.

“It’s a cliche but performing every Sunday for all South Africans was the highlight of my stay in Idols and my most memorable moment was when I sang Freshlyground’s I’d Like.”
