Idols: Lefa roots for Crushanda

2011-09-20 15:24

Ousted Idols contestant Lefa Pike thinks Dave van Vuuren or Freddie Van’Dango may be voted out tonight.

Lefa, who was voted out last week, hopes that Crushanda Forbes will go on to win this season of Idols.

On Sunday, Freddie attempted to “Van’Dango” a song that clearly “needed him to be more still and focus”, according to Idols judge Unathi Msengana.

Randall Abrahams piled on the criticism: “Unfortunately, the song showed your vocal shortcomings and you weren’t able to make it your own.”

This week, the top 4 performed two grammy-nominated songs each plus a duet.

Dave van Vuuren’s performance was consistent while Mark Haze stepped out of the box by choosing to sing Marvin Gaye’s I Heard It Through The Grapevine.

Crushanda sang Celine Dion’s Because You Love Me and Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me.

Meanwhile, Lefa is yet to receive offers from record labels since his exit from the series, but he is still confident that he can make it.

“It doesn’t worry me because it is easy to get trapped by the clauses you don’t understand in the contracts, so for now I just want to take things slow and I’m ready to negotiate with whoever is interested in me,” he says.

“I’ve also realised that I appeal to the older crowd much more so I want to make music in indigenous languages.”

With the help of his agent, Lefa is getting booked to perform at corporate and social events.

“I know I can still make it without Idols because for me it has been a stepping stone. I think being voted out has made me realise that this is very hard work but I got the exposure I needed so it’s all systems go.”
