Idols: Melissa might surprise SA – Monde

Khaya Mthethwa is the “obvious winner” but Melissa Allison might surprise the country, Idols hopeful Monde Msutwana said after being eliminated from the show.

After auditioning thousands of singing hopefuls, the eighth season of Idols SA has reached its final stage, leaving Allison (23) and Mthethwa (25) to battle it out in the finale.

During last night’s live broadcast, Msutwana was eliminated after receiving the least votes from viewers.

“My aim was just to make it to the Top 5 and now that I finished in the Top 3, it has given me a chance to make something of this because people will remember me for that spot,” Msutwana said today.

The show started its auditions in February and had over 5 000 entries. It will come to an end on Tuesday, when Allison or Mthethwa will walk away with this year’s prize, which includes a recording contract.

The runner-up will receive R100 000 cash as a compensation prize.

Asked who he was rooting for, Msutwana said: “I am rooting for both Melissa and Khaya to win the show.

Khaya is the obvious winner but Melissa has always been the surprise and I think she might surprise the country again.”

The two are set to perform live on Friday night at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairlands, west of Johannesburg, and the show will be broadcast on Sunday.

Voting for the finale is open and will close on Monday, October 1, at 10pm.
