Idols: who’s going home?

There’s no doubt that this Sunday’s performance really got South Africa talking. It seems the producers of the show heeded the call to turn the show into a true pop contest by including some dance spectaculars – and it worked.

By far the best performance of the evening went to Lloyd. His rendition of Usher’s OMG sent viewers wild, but his vocal performance unfortunately did not match up to his dance moves. Viewers didn’t seem to mind.

Boki also performed well with both songs, the Percy Sledge classic When a Man Loves a Woman and Justin Timberlake’s My Love. Boki proved to be the crowd favourite.

Sindi also performed well, with her rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s One Night Only and Beyonce’s Single Ladies. However, she did lose the words a little.

Elvis Blue’s Bridge Over Troubled Water was a real sleeping pill, but his interpretation of Kanye West’s Gold Digger was interesting to say the least. If he doesn’t make it as a singer he may just have a shot as a music producer.

The weaker performances of the night went to Pieter, whose awkward attempt at the Joe Cocker hit Keep Your Hat On left viewers saying keep your shirt on, and Adeline, whose version of Shakira’s Anything You Want was lacklustre, while the Luther Vandross number Dance With My Father wasn’t much better.

If all’s fair in Idols, tonight will see the two weakest competitors leave – Adeline and Pieter. If not it will be Sindi and
Adeline and then it will be up to the boys.
