I’m doing this for my kids – Kelly Khumalo

2014-11-25 18:15

Many people have been asking why Kelly Khumalo chose to return to the limelight “so soon” and not mourn her slain boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa.

Khumalo’s recent public appearances include performances at the Feather Awards and Live AMP.

But the songstress today told the media at a press conference held at Universal Records in Rosebank, Johannesburg, that she has to feed her two children and please her fans.

“I have responsibility of my two kids and fans,” explained Khumalo. “I have people who have been following my career since August 2005. I have dusted myself and I’m ready to sing.”

Khumalo said she was not going to talk about the “gory details” of what happened on the day when Meyiwa was shot.

“I’m not in a platform to talk about the gory details – I’m an artist before my personal life,” insisted Khumalo. She told journalists that before “headlines” there’s Khumalo who’s an artist. “After Meyiwa passed on, people started questioning the song (Asine) and I just fell in love with it simply because the message was very strong,” she said. The song, written by Sello Chico Twala, is about a woman who is accused of killing her husband. “Little did I know that the song was going to be a prophecy,” she said.

“The song is not only about me, but also the same people who went through the same situation. I’m not only representing myself but other women out there as well,” she said.

Khumalo pleaded with journalists to give her time to deal with Meyiwa’s passing.

“I will talk when I’m ready,” she said.
