2014 Impact Award winners: Jade Bowers (Theatre) Thabo Makhetha-Kwinana (Design) Nomfundo Xaluva (Music) and Bevan de Wet (Visual Art) Picture: Gareth Jacobs

The winners of the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) Impact Awards for 2014 have been announced at a glitzy event at the Maslow Hotel in Rosebank.

The prestigious ACT awards, now in its 20th year, recognize young professionals in the arts who have promising careers ahead of them. This years award winners recognize four local creatives who made a big impression on the voting public and the revered panel of judges. The awards are an interesting divergence from normal arts awards with the inclusion of a design category, broadening the scope of achievement in the arts.

The lifetime achievement award has honoured Sam Nzima for Visual Art, Richard Cock for Music, Andre P. Brink for Literature and Richard Loring for Theatre. This year a special award for arts advocacy acknowledges exceptional patronage in the arts, recognizing those charitable individuals who support the arts at all costs. This years prize was awarded to Mandie van der Spuy the Head of Arts and Jazz Sponsorship at Standard Bank.
