Is 10/10/10 the end?

2010-10-10 08:56

Today is the 10th day of the 10th month of the year 2010 or 10/10/10.

Isn’t that too reminiscent of 06/06/06 (or 666 if you want to be cryptic). What diabolical fiend awaits us?

Relax, dear reader, and get out of that bunker.

The world’s not ending today, as far as we know.

The computers are working well and not about to crash.

In fact, I know you didn’t expect this but the binary code is still 1 and 0.

However, there are those among us who need a little bit more convincing.

Take the suckers who formed the Facebook group called: “Does the world end at 10/10/10”.

Moving on to people that this world needs - they are Bill McKibben and Dominic Mapstone.

One is hoping that you will start a party today and the other is hoping you will end homelessness.

McKibben, co-founder and director of, uses the organisation’s website to urge everyone to “circle 10/10/10 on your calendar”.

The point?

“To do something that will help deal with global warming in your city or community.”

Mapstone, who writes for the website, has announced today its inaugural World Homeless Day (WHD – envisioned at the World Homeless Forum) and that WHD will fall on October 10 every year.

Mapstone challenges everyone to “effect change and make a difference in the lives of homeless people” on the day.

So there. While you’re still alive, start a party or get that homeless person into your house.

Tonight you can sleep in your apocalypse-ready bunker.
