It’s all about the Kemistry

2012-03-03 07:58

What goes down at a Kem concert?
You can expect us to sound just like the record?– a quality show.

What is your favourite music instrument to play?

The only instrument I play is the piano or keyboard. I’d love to play guitar though.

What is spirituality to you?
Spirituality is everything. Believing that there is a power greater than yourself and that this power is helping you become the best version of yourself. It’s everything.

It is clear that you take your time in music production. What influences you?
I’m all about quality from beginning to end. We pay attention to the details from songwriting to production to live performance. I just want to be the best I can be. I don’t take my fans for granted; they deserve a quality product.

What difficulties have you faced in the music industry?

Music is a job and the business is difficult. It’s a good job but it comes with a lot of baggage.

Do you have any artists you look up to?
Prince, Michael Jackson, Babyface and Quincy Jones.

Are you planning to retire from the music industry, or is it ‘till death do you part’?
I will always have a love for music. I would like to be able to work as long as I feel good about what I am doing.

What do you do to relax?
I watch movies or am out in nature.

Which do you prefer: being in a studio, or performing at a lounge-type venue or a large concert?

I prefer smaller venues. I like being close to the audience. It’s better for me and
for them.

Do you like it when your songs are remixed, or would you rather have them original?
I like some of the remixes. I like the fact that people think enough of my work to remix it.

You worked with the late great Whitney Houston on the film Sparkle. What was the experience like?

I didn’t really have any interaction or scenes with Whitney during the making of Sparkle. I am very sad that she is no longer with us. I really wanted her to win and I thought the movie was going to really be good for her.
