It’s make or break for SA Under-23s

2011-06-11 07:59

The South African Under-23 soccer team face Benin in a make or break Olympic qualifier in Rustenburg next Saturday.

Shakes Mashaba’s side are trailing 3-1 from the first leg last weekend.

The locals need a 2-0 to advance to the next round of the qualifiers.

Mashaba has made three additions to the team: He called on the experience of the Bafana Bafana duo of Ajax Asterdam-bound Thulani Serero and Orlando Pirates workhorse Andile Jali.

He left out Riaan Eugene of Santos and beefed up with SuperSport United striker Kermit Erasmus.

The full squad to face Benin is:
Goalkeepers: Daren Keet (Bidvest Wits), Brilliant Khuzwayo (AmaZulu), Boalefa Pule (Platinum Stars)

Defenders: Siyabonga Zulu, Sibusiso Mxoyana (both Orlando Pirates), Ramahlwe Mphahlele (Moroka Swallows), Doctor Mampuru (Puk Tawana), Erick (sub correct) Mathoho (Bloemfontein Celtic), Thulani Hlatshwayo (Ajax Cape Town), Gladwin Shitolo (Jomo Cosmos)

Midfielders: Andile Jali (Pirates), Bhongolethu Jayiya (Bidvest Wits), Thandani Ntshumayelo (SuperSport United), Kamohelo Mokotjo (Feyenoord, Holland), Mandla Masango (Kaizer Chiefs), Sameehg Doutie (Ajax), Themba Zwane (Mamelodi Sundowns), Christopher Flandorp (Bidvest Wits), Thamsanqa Sangweni (AmaZulu).

Strikers: Bongani Ndulula (Pirates), Kermit Erasmus (SuperSport United), Thulani Serero (Ajax Amsterdam, Holland), Phumelele Bhengu (Bay United).
