Finally, after years of neglect and a fading Arts Alive Festival, Joburg’s council says it wants to revive the city to its former glorious self.

The brand-new Joburg City Fest is all about encouraging the use of public transport, urban regeneration, tourism and the cultural vibrancy of the City of Gold.

It includes a range of activities and events geared at living, dining and partying across the 11 inner-city districts.

Events include the opening exhibition at the Absa Art Gallery, downtown walks to take in public art and a mini jazz fest at Niki’s Oasis in Newtown.

There’s a bunch of Kalawa Jazmee artists at Bassline, Johnny Clegg unplugged at the Wits Great Hall in Braamfontein, a party on the rooftop at Randlords and even a sci-fi film festival at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre.
