Jordaan denies his brother is benefiting from World Cup

2010-06-26 13:49

Fifa local organising committee chief executive Danny Jordaan today

dismissed claims that his brother was benefiting from the World Cup.

“I cannot comment on that. All I know is that we are focused on

dealing with the World Cup,” he said during a media conference held at Soccer

He dismissed as “nonsense” the fact that local media insisted on

referring back to the Safa elections to insinuate that there was tension between

himself and Safa chairperson, Irvin Khoza.

Jordaan also refuted reports by the

Mail and Guardian that he had submitted an affidavit to his lawyers in an effort

to take legal steps against the newspaper.

“Do you know the lawyers?” he asked. “I’d be happy if you gave me

their names.”

The Mail and Guardian reported that Jordaan’s brother was cashing

in on the World Cup through a hospitality contract.

Fifa secretary general, Jerome Valcke, hailed South Africa as the

best host of the soccer tournament.

“South Africa will always be a plan B for any World Cup,” Valcke

He said that South Africa was one of the best attended World Cup

tournaments in 20 years.
