Jub Jub expected to take the stand

2011-12-05 09:26

Murder accused musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is expected to take the stand in the Protea Magistrates Court in Joburg today.

The State closed its case last week after testimony from its last witness Tembela Mahlati, head of the out-patients pharmacy at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

She told the court that urine samples belonging to Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala contained a “mix masala” of stimulant and depressant drugs – cocaine, caffeine, tobacco, morphine, paracetamol and doxylamine.

The trial was delayed this morning while Maarohanye’s lawyer Ike Motloung consulted with him ahead of his testimony.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The two were allegedly racing when they crashed into a group of school children along Mdlalose Street in Protea North on March 8, last year.

Four children were killed and two others seriously injured.
