Judge reprimands noisy foreign journalist at Oscar Pistorius trial

2014-03-05 11:13

A foreign journalist was inadvertently thrust into the spotlight at the Oscar Pistorius murder trial after Judge Thokozile Masipa asked her to stand up and explain why a voice emanating from her laptop had disturbed the court.

Aislinn Laing, journalist for the UK’s Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, closed her laptop, threw it down and shrunk in embarrassment when the voice was heard in court.

She apologised profusely when Masipa asked her to explain, saying a pop-up had unexpectedly appeared on her screen.

Masipa reprimanded her and warned the media to be quiet.

The incident comes after a spokesperson from the department of justice asked the media to be silent and to respect the judge, the state prosecutors and the defence.
