Jules sex scandal: gossip site closes chatrooms

2010-11-20 12:46

Gossip site Outoilet closed its school chat rooms this week following the Jules High School sex debacle.

The controversial website’s webmaster yesterday posted that “due to recent troubles we had no option but to remove them from the site. We’re sorry but believe its for the best”.

OuToilet.wen.su received numerous complaints from users for closing the chat rooms.

Responding to the “publicity” that the site has enjoyed since the sex scandal broke two weeks ago, the webmaster wrote: “lol but we get publicity for the wrong reasons ... so we’re making the effort to make the site more ‘light-hearted’ and friendly :-/ hope the media are pleased they got what they wanted, and report it ;).”

A girl (15) and boy (14) from Jules High School were charged this week with “consensual sexual penetration” following what was initially reported to be an alleged gang-rape at the school. A 16-year-old boy faces a charge of statutory rape.

They will appear in court again on December 1.

The incident happened during school hours. It was filmed on cellphones and pupils posted offers to sell and distribute the footage in the Jules High chat room on Outoilet.

As a result, rights groups have asked that the site be closed down. This may, however, prove difficult as its domain is registered in Russia.

From postings on the website it seems the webmaster is operating from South Africa.

The story has been widely covered in the South African media, which prompted the webmaster to remove the school chat rooms.

He writes: “Outoilet does not want to be blamed for children being bullied/attacked/raped, so we had no other choice but to remove them from the site.”

However, minutes before this post, the webmaster provided a sex chat room’s web address to one user looking for the “amateur sex chat thing”.

Some users have threatened to expose the webmaster.

One user addressed the webmaster as “CEO” claiming to know his identity and threatening to reveal his address. The webmaster pleaded with the user not to reveal where he lives.

Another entry in Afrikaans claims to be following the tracks of one “Jaco” and that his other website, also with a Russian domain name, will be targeted next.

» A similar site to Outoilet, www.toilet.wen.ru, and also registered in Russia, today, however, still featured school chat rooms.
