Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has used his address to supporters after his court appearance to take a swipe at the ANC and its leaders, labelling them sellouts and spies.

In his loaded tirade, Malema said some ANC leaders were in the pockets of business tycoons Johann Rupert and Nicky Oppenheimer.

Malema told his supporters that ANC leaders who took part in negotiations paving the way for the democratic government had “sold you out at the negotiations table”.

“They’re now all rich. That is why all ANC economic policies are audited by the Oppenheimers. No economic policy will come out of the ANC unless approved by the Ruperts and Oppenheimers,” he said.

“Trevor Manuel is in the pockets of the Rupert family in Stellenbosch. His wedding was held on their farm. [ANC deputy president] Cyril Ramaphosa was after negotiations co-opted by the Oppenheimers and [later] went to them and said the only favour they could do for him is if he can become the president and that is why he is the deputy president today,” Malema said.

“[National chairperson of the ANC] Baleka Mbete received R28 million from Gold Fields. Gwede Mantashe’s wife is in mining. They sold us out [and] all of them are in the pockets of capitalists.”

He then turned to Ramaphosa again, saying he had once said to him and his EFF lieutenant Floyd Shivhambu in an ANC Youth League national executive committee meeting that “while they were in negotiations they were already negotiating shares in Vodacom”.

“When they were supposed to be negotiating freedom they were already negotiating shares. Cyril said it himself in a youth league meeting and he cried.”

Malema went on to label Ramaphosa a “boer spy”, saying that is “why we said we defeated the boers but when we go to [ANC] DC [disciplinary committee] we get dismissed by this boer spy called Ramaphosa”.

“Why was Ramaphosa never arrested and had a passport during apartheid flying everywhere? Why, if he was revolutionary then was he never sentenced for years in Robben Island? It is because he’s a boer spy,” Malema said.

Meanwhile, Malema said his party will before the end of December hold big rallies to launch the EFF in Gauteng at a venue in Mamelodi outside Pretoria, while Limpopo would hold its official launch at Seshego Stadium.

He said the EFF would launch its election manifesto around the first week of January, which is about the same time the ANC will host its January 8 statement and election mood will be escalating.
