This year’s Spier Contemporary Collection is currently

on tour around the country and will be at the Community Art Centre in Bird

Street until July 14.

The largest biennial contemporary art competition and

Theatre lovers and Samuel Beckett fans are in for

a rare treat when Waiting for Godot comes to the Fugard Theatre with Sir Ian

McKellen starring as Estragon.

Also on stage are Roger Rees, Matthew Kelly and

Brendan O’Hea. This Sean Mathias’ directed production has been touring the world

for two years and finally comes to Cape Town from July 31 to August 14.

StreetSmart SA, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the social

integration and upliftment of street children, is hosting a fundraising dinner

with Spanish music by talented classical guitarist James Grace.

Grace, who is

currently head of Classical Guitar Studies at UCT, will be performing at

Harvey’s at Winchester Mansions on Friday, 30 July where punters can also get

dinner with a Spanish twist.

Athol Fugard’s classic drama, Hello and Goodbye,

starring husband and wife team, Dorothy Anne Gould and Michael Maxwell, comes to

the Market Theatre 45 years after it was first performed.

The two-hander is as

pertinent today as it was when it was written in 1965. The drama is set in the

kitchen of a railway house in Port Elizabeth in 1963.

Hello and Goodbye,

directed by Mark Graham, runs at the Market Theatre Complex’s Barney Simon

Parker’s Comedy & Jive at Montecasino is bringing some of South

Africa’s top local comics and a star international comedian to the stage.

brilliant observationist Dave Levinsohn, uber-dry Chris Forrest and many more

share the stage with John Newton from the UK in a month dedicated to helping

South Africa find the funny side of Bafana’s heroic exit from the world’s

biggest sporting event.

On July 14 is the Nando’s Jozi Comedy Festival Comedy

Showdown open mic heat. From July 15 to 17 catch Joe Parker, Chris Maphane and

Britain’s John Newton; then on July 22, 23 and 24 catch Newton again, this time

sharing the stage with Nik Rabinowitz and Tats Nkonzo.
