Two robbers were shot dead and two others were wounded in a shootout with police after a robbery at a KFC in Florida on the West Rand, according to a news report today.

The four held staff of the fried chicken outlet at gunpoint yesterday evening, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, the SABC reported.

Police responding to the distress call saw the getaway vehicle on the Main Reef Road and gave chase.

The men started shooting at police who returned fire.

“Two of the suspects were fatally wounded and two others were seriously wounded and were taken to hospital under police guard,” Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale told the SABC.

She said the money that had been stolen was recovered as well as two unlicensed firearms.

The surviving men would be charged with attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and armed robbery.
