A man convicted of raping his 11-year-old step-daughter in Umhlali, on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the KwaDukuza Regional Court.

Colonel Jay Naicker said yesterday the man was sentenced on Wednesday for raping the girl in August last year.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence and thanked the detectives who worked to secure the conviction.

“We... are pleased that another monster who preyed on defenceless women and children has been removed from society,” he said.

“This is a victory, not only for the [SA Police Service], but for all vulnerable women and children in this country.”
