KZN teenager raped in front of her children

A woman was raped in front of her two-year-old twins and two-week-old baby in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said today.

“It is alleged that at gunpoint the suspect ordered the 42-year-old mother [of the victim] to cover her face with a blanket. He then ordered the 18-year-old victim to lie on the floor and thereafter raped her while her two-year-old sons watched,” said Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan.

The incident happened on Saturday night in a place called France phase five in Pietermartizburg.

Jeevan said the 18-year-old woman and her mother were asleep when they were awoken by a man who had a firearm with him.

The man demanded money from the family.

“He ransacked the house and took a Samsung cellphone, two Nokia cellphones and a Motorola cellphone, and fled from the scene,” said Jeevan.

The woman and her mother were afraid that the suspect may still be in the area so they locked their house and remained inside until morning when they contacted the police.

“The victim was taken to a clinic in the Northdale area for treatment. It is believed that the suspect gained entry by forcing open the bedroom window. No arrests were made.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Bheki Langa, on 033-845-7724 or on 078-712-4199.
