KZN warns against unregistered schools

2011-01-12 14:49

Matric pupils intending to repeat grade 12 should not fall victim to unauthorised schools, the KwaZulu-Natal department of education said today.

“The KZN department of education sends a warning to candidates who are contemplating repeating their matric not to fall victim to fly-by-night schools.

“It is important that learners and parents ensure that they check the credentials of the finishing school to ensure that the school is registered,” said the provincial education department in a statement.

The department said learners were taken advantage of by schools that were not registered.

“We call on parents and learners to remain vigilant and if in doubt to contact the department’s examination administration offices to verify whether the school is indeed a registered examination centre.”

A finishing school that caters for matric learners must have a valid examination centre number that is allocated by the department.

Learners and parents could contact 031 327 0262 or 031 327 0282 for the new curriculum and 031 327 0312 for the old curriculum or contact the call centre on 0860 596 363.

They can also enquire at their local education district offices.

“Those who have failed matric can go back to class and repeat the grade.

There will need to go to their nearest district office so they can secure placement in schools.”
