Hollywood star Katie Holmes recently stayed in Cape Town to shoot The Giver. City Press consulted some industry insiders to compile a list of the film star’s favourite Mother City haunts.

Hollywood star Katie Holmes stayed in Cape Town last month to shoot The Giver, a blockbuster movie co-starring Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift.

The 35-year-old brunette who divorced Tom Cruise, the father of her seven-year-old daughter Suri, is back in the United States where, according to industry gossip, she is preparing to star in the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey.

City Press consulted some industry insiders, including Justin Miccoli, the founder of 3D Model Management in Cape Town (who worked with Holmes on The Giver) to compile a list of the film star’s favourite Mother City haunts.

1 The Big Route Deli Bar, Main Road, Green Point.

Big Route has Italian owners who are said to whip up fine, light pizzas. “This was Katie’s favourite pizza bar. It was walking distance from her hotel in the Waterfront, with the best light pizza in town,” said Miccoli.

2 Strolls on Camps Bay beach with sundowners at Mynt Cafe

He added that the actress enjoyed walks on the beach and tequila sundowners in Camps Bay. Her preferred watering hole was Mynt Bar and her tipple of choice passion fruit with tequila and iced lemon.

3 Societi Bistro, Orange Street, Gardens

Staff at the central city restaurant confirmed that Holmes and Suri dined there with a bodyguard and an au pair last month. Manager Johan van Heerden said Holmes had the fillet au poiver (pepper steak) at R161, and requested just plain pasta for Suri. “She loved the pepper sauce, she was very complimentary,” he said.

4 Green Point Park

The actress was spotted frolicking with Suri in Green Point Park next to the Cape Town Stadium. The public park is laced with fynbos with paved pathways and a kiddies playground.

5 Robben Island

On November 10, Holmes posted a picture of herself on Robben Island on Twitter. The caption read: “My sincere gratitude to Ahmed Kathrada for showing me Robben Island today. It was an honour for me. Thank you.”
