Rumours of a romance continue to dog Kelly Khumalo and maskandi singer Zamokwakhe “Bhaka” Nzama – and his presence at the Metro FM Awards nomination announcement on Thursday didn’t help matters.

Nzama is not nominated, but was at the announcement at Bryanston’s The Forum with at least six bodyguards in tow.

“I’m here to support a friend,” he told City Press. He would not comment further.

Khumalo was also tight-lipped and did not respond to questions after Thursday night’s event.

She is nominated in two categories: Best African Pop Album and Song of the Year for Asine.

Nzama and Khumalo stayed apart for the entire night. A few weeks ago, the married Nzama posted a photograph of himself and Khumalo at The Saxon Hotel in Joburg.

He flatly denied they were an item, saying they were “just friends” holding a “business meeting”.

“They have been spending more time together of late. They are inseparable and are madly in love,” said a source close to both of the singers.

Two sources close to Nzama told City Press that Nzama was spending a lot of time in Joburg with Khumalo and that his wife had “no say” in the matter.

KwaZulu-Natal’s Isolezwe newspaper reported this week that Nzama threw a huge party for Khumalo’s younger sister, Zandile, at his home in Malvern, Durban.

“He even hired two armed bodyguards and an Audi 5,” a friend who was at the party told City Press.

The friend added that expensive Champagne like Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot flowed throughout the night.

“It was a big party that I will never forget,” said the friend.
