Khan roped in to replace Nyoka

2011-10-15 14:49

AK Khan has replaced former Cricket SA (CSA) president Mtutuzeli Nyoka in an acting role.

The CSA board voted Nyoka out by a “comfortable majority”, according to officials, at a special general meeting in Kempton Park today.
Khan, CSA’s vice-president, would fill an acting role as president until the next CSA annual general meeting in August 2012.

He temporarily replaced Nyoka after he was removed from his post earlier this year.

Nyoka was given the boot in February after he made repeated calls for an independent inquiry into CSA finances and bonuses paid to staff including Gerald Majola.

After he won a case at the High Court and was reinstated, CSA agreed to an independent KPMG audit.

Nyoka continued to call for action, however, after Majola was found to have breached the Companies’ Act in at least four instances.

Having announced last month it would attempt again to boot him from the federation’s top post, CSA received the majority of support from provincial members in the weeks leading up to the meeting.

Only one of the 11 provincial administrative bodies -- the Northerns Cricket Union – publicly stated it would support the CSA president.
Nyoka had been accused of disregarding majority decisions of the CSA’s board and damaging its reputation.
