Khanyi vs Kelly

2012-08-04 17:07

It’s the battle of the books as two of our most notorious entertainers ‘tell all’

It seems the competition between ghetto queen Khanyi Mbau and rural meisie Kelly Khumalo is far from over.

The famous frenemies (friendly enemies) may be from different backgrounds, but their lives have become identical tales – scandalous love affairs, multiple public spats and tabloid darlings who crave the spotlight.

Now their rivalry is back in the spotlight as they unleash their “tell-all” biographies. Next week Mbau (27) will launch Bitch Please! I’m Khanyi Mbau, while Khumalo (29) will release The Kelly Khumalo Story in October.

When City Press told Mbau about Khumalo’s book, she roared with laughter. “Serious? She’s also writing a book? I start trends mos; I am not a follower,” said Mbau.

Proving that the two did not really “make up” over greasy chicken, as suggested in a TV advert they did together last year, Mbau implied that Khumalo was “jacking” her swag.

“I had a Brazilian weave, then she had one. I came out about my abusive relationship, and so did she. Clearly
it’s imitation.”

Mbau’s biography is written by City Press 7 editor Lesley Mofokeng and is a tongue-in-cheek tale of Mbau’s life. It covers her rise to fame, controversial love life and tabloid scandals.

Khumalo’s book is penned by Smacked author Melinda Ferguson with Khumalo’s manager, Sarah Setlaelo.

According to Ferguson, it is a “tale of redemption”.

It follows Khumalo’s life as a rising star from Nquthu in Kwazulu-Natal to her unexpected plummet from grace, her disastrous relationship with rapper Jub Jub Maarohanye and her cocaine addiction.

Khumalo refused to comment on her book.

Instead, Setlaelo told City Press: “Kelly feels Khanyi is a fellow entertainer and that their lives have nothing in common.

"This Kelly vs Khanyi is a media-created vehicle that Kelly says she won’t be a passenger of.”
