Khaya learns the price of fame

2012-10-16 15:31

Khaya Mthethwa, South Africa’s first black Idol, is fast learning the price of fame after a mobbing incident in Durban left him with a scar and some users on social networks attributed it to a stabbing incident.

Claims that he had been stabbed or was in a car accident spread on Twitter over the weekend because of the wound.

But Mthethwa has since tweeted: “Wasn’t stabbed. No car accident. Now @Ballito. Meeting all my commitments. Vhembe Festival ur next! Then back yo Durban”.

The real cause of the scar was a fence on which Mthethwa fell on Thursday when he was mobbed by young fans in Umlazi township as he was arriving at his Umlazi Oasis Fellowship Church to rehearse with his choir members.

He was then rushed to the casualty section of Durban’s Kingsway Hospital where he got seven stitches and was advised “to relax and not overuse his facial muscles to allow the scar to heal”.

“He spent an hour at the hospital and was discharged and continued to go and sing with his choir members,” said a source who refused to be named.

Doctors are said to be monitoring his progress and Mthethwa now has a bodyguard at his side.
