Khune wants local coach

2012-04-25 14:23

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has put pressure on the club to get a local coach.

Khune said European coaches were undermining and lacked understanding of South African football.

It remains to be seen what would be the reaction of Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung who tends to entrust the fortunes of his club to foreign coaches and overlook local coaches.

Paul Dolezar, Muhsin Ertugral and Ernst Middendorp are some of the foreign coaches that were recruited by Motaung.

The club recently fired Serbian Vladimir Vermezovic for failure to earn some silverware this season.

Khune said the club’s interim coaches, Doctor Khumalo and Donald “Ace” Khuse – both South Africans – encouraged them to play entertaining football.

“The last three games under local coaches, we’ve been playing entertaining football. It’s a pity that we couldn’t get positive results but I know we’re getting there. They have instilled confidence and players are slowly adapting to the style,” said Khune.

He said he was confident that they would turn the corner in the next game against SuperSport United on Saturday.

Chiefs have suffered three successive defeats since the departure of Vermezovic earlier this month.

“We will turn the table around. The attack may not be getting goals but I believe we are heading in the right direction. I think we can take a lot of positives from the last games,” Khune said. “We definitely moved the ball well and created chances, and we played together as a team,” he added.
