‘Kill Malema’ SMS shocks ANC

2010-04-01 15:06

The ANC has expressed shock at the news of an SMS which is said to

be circulating which promises a reward of R2 million to any person who will kill

ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema.

ANC national spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said: “As we have said

before, these personal threats on comrade Malema reminds us of that part of our

ugly history.”

Mthembu said the ruling party had repeatedly warned the Freedom

Front (FF) that “their anti-Malema campaign can be used...to advance an agenda

that even the Freedom Front will cringe about”.

Mthembu said his party took the threat seriously and had reported

this to the minister of police, Nathi Mthethwa, to follow this up with an

investigation, as this sms is a clearly a public declaration to kill.
