New York, US. – If you blinked, you might have missed it, but Rafael Nadal gave the tennis world another look at the weapon he hopes will help him win the US Open and complete his collection of grand slam titles.

The world number one has been working hard on his serve in the belief that it holds the key to his chances of finally conquering New York.

If his performance last night was anything to go by, the wait may soon be over.

Defending US champion Clijsters overwhelms Kvitova

Kim Clijsters erased an early first-set deficit and put her hopes of defending her US Open title back on track with a 6-3 6-0 win against Petra Kvitova that secured the Belgian a spot in the fourth round.

Clearly a favourite with the crowds after her fairytale win last year, where she triumphed in only her third tournament since the birth of her daughter, the 27-year-old was cheered from the moment she stepped out on to centre court.

Schiavone wants copy of her Federer-like shot

French Open champion Francesca Schiavone said she wanted a DVD copy of the Roger Federer-like trick shot she produced on her way to the fourth round of the US Open yesterday.

The Italian sixth seed replicated Federer’s stunning between-the-legs shot in the second set of her 6-1 7-5 win over 29th seed Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine.

Williams puts on stylish show as Serena looks on

A stylish Venus Williams gave a commanding performance, with little sister Serena looking on, as she trounced qualifier Mandy Minella of Luxembourg to reach the fourth round of the US Open yesterday.

Third-seeded Williams needed two service games to find her bearings and then raced to a 6-2 6-1 win as the 185th-ranked Minella managed to win just a single game on serve.

Elena Dementieva moves into fourth round of US Open

Number 11 seed Elena Dementieva recovered from a first-set slump to continue her strong record against Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova with a 7-5 6-2 win yesterday.

It was the 16th career meeting in a decade between the two and the Russian took her tally of wins against Hantuchova to 12 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, earning a spot in the fourth round.
