Kyalami will remain a racetrack – Porsche SA

2014-07-24 17:10

Porsche SA has no plans to demolish the Kyalami racetrack, which it bought today at an auction for R205 million.

“Kyalami will remain a racetrack. We want to preserve this national treasure,” said Christo Kruger, public relations manager for Porsche SA.

The company outbid competitors at a public auction in Hyde Park, Joburg, today to buy the 72-hectare property.

Kruger said: “Both the Kyalami racetrack and Porsche have a rich racing heritage. Buying the racetrack seemed like a natural extension.”

He would, however, not be drawn on Porsche’s plans for the asset. He said Porsche would make an announcement as soon as the transfer had been completed.

“We don’t want to reveal any plans prematurely.”
