Lambie returns for Sharks

2011-04-21 14:31

Flyhalf Patrick Lambie will return from an injury-enforced layoff when the Sharks tackle the Hurricanes in a Super Rugby clash in Durban on Saturday evening.

The 20-year-old missed the Sharks’ last three matches after fracturing his finger against the Chiefs.

After returning to training this past week, Lambie was immediately drafted back into the starting line-up in place of Jacques-Louis Potgieter.

In-form hooker Bismarck du Plessis, meanwhile, failed to recover from a shoulder injury and has been dropped from the match-day 22 named on Thursday.

Captain John Smit will start his first game at hooker – something for which Bok coach Peter de Villiers has been clamouring – with Craig Burden joining the bench.

In the second row, Ross Skeate has earned a rare starting berth after an injury-plagued few months for the Sharks, and his elevation to the run-on XV means Gerhard Mostert drops to the bench.

In a couple of other rotational switches, Jacques Botes comes in for Keegan Daniel on the flank while Lwazi Mvovo replaces Odwa Ndungane on the wing.

Sharks team: Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit (capt), Eugene van Staden, Steven Sykes, Ross Skeate, Jacques Botes, Willem Alberts, Ryan Kankowski, Charl McLeod, Patrick Lambie, Lwazi Mvovo, Meyer Bosman, Stefan Terblanche, JP Pietersen, Louis Ludik.

Replacements: Craig Burden, Jannie du Plessis, Gerhard Mostert, Keegan Daniel, Conrad Hoffmann, Adrian Jacobs, Odwa Ndungane.
