League takes its time

2011-06-16 09:31

By 10am this morning, there were still no signs of the ANC Youth League congress starting, despite the fact that it was scheduled to get under way at 9am.

The parameter of the Gallagher Convention Centre was awash with young comrades singing and dancing in usual ANC political style.

The venue was also swarming with police as well as other security guards.

President Jacob Zuma, who is scheduled to address congress, has not arrived an hour after the scheduled time.

It was not clear whether the league’s leader, Julius Malema, who is seeking re-election, had arrived as he was nowhere to be seen.

By 10am, the venue was still out of bounds for both delegates and media.

Malema’s nemesis, Lebogang Maile, is scheduled to deliver the welcome address in his capacity as the league chairperson in Gauteng.

According to the programme, after Malema’s political report delegates will attend June 16 celebrations at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
