Lend us your votes, asks Zille

2011-04-05 12:20

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille today asked the people of Cape Town to “lend” the party their votes and allow it to prove that it can deliver services to the poor better than any other party.

“Put us to the test. Lend us your votes for the next five years,” Zille told a media briefing in Cape Town, where the party launched a document on delivery to the poor in the city.

“Across the board, the poor do better in the places the [Democratic Alliance (DA)] governs.”

Zille said voters needed to make a choice on issues and not on race.

She said people had the power to make a difference in their own lives by voting for the right party.

“In an election you have the power. In a democracy, people get the government they deserve.”

The party’s mayoral candidate Patricia de Lille said the DA was delivering services to all the people of Cape Town and not just the elite, as had been reported.

Delivery to the poor was one of the city’s and the DA’s highest priorities, she said.
