Lennox Lewis’ R1bn demand unrealistic – Milenkovic

2013-10-11 08:40

The $100 million (close to R1 billion) demanded by former heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis to fight one of the Klitschko brothers is unrealistic, says globally acclaimed South African promoter Branco Milenkovic.

“Lennox has been out of boxing for a decade and whether he would manage to attract the much needed attention for that money is questionable,” said Milenkovic.

The Serbian-born promoter said only big pay-per-view television networks like Showtime and HBO would make the fight happen, but the chances of them forking out so much for one fighter were highly unlikely.

But former World Boxing Federation heavyweight champion Frans Botha, who fought and lost against Wladimir Klitschko and Lewis alike, said if the fight happens, Lewis would save the now on-the-ropes heavyweight division.

“The Klitschkos are so boring and have actually killed the heavyweight division. If there’s one man who can demolish them it’s Lennox who I believe is underrated but one of the best,” said Botha.

Lewis retired in June 2003 with a victory against Vitali Klitschko. His astonishing career record reads: 41 wins (32 by knockout); two losses (by KO) and a single draw.
