Leopards relish new PSL spot

2011-06-25 15:44

How will Leopards contribute to the Limpopo economy?
We are the only side from Limpopo that is campaigning in the PSL and it means the economy of our province will boom because top-class soccer matches will be played here regularly.

There will be something for everyone in business – ranging from the transport sector, the hotels and small enterprises.

Why they have to travel 200km to their home games?
We have no proper facilities in Thohoyandou. There is not even a single World Cup legacy project in Venda and the club and our loyal supporters will have to travel 200km in and out to our home games at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.

People were watching our game against Bay United (at Tshifulanani Stadium) from tree tops last weekend.

The Thohoyandou Stadium, which we last used about four years ago has been neglected because our municipality does not seem to care about us. One asks oneself if Venda really belongs to South Africa.

What is Sunday Chidzambwa’s future as coach?
He still has two years to go on his contract. I’ve never had a coach as level-headed as Chidzambwa.

He is like a brother and doesn’t talk too much. He just does his job and we are pleased about the attractive football Leopards have played since he joined us in October.

How will you juggle the Absa Premiership and the Caf Confederations Cup?
I promised the boys that everyone who was part of the team during our struggle in the First Division should now enjoy the fruit of our labour now that we are back in the PSL.

The PSL will give us a R1 million subsidy to compete in Africa. We are going to beef up our squad as we have less than 30 players on our books.

We have nothing to lose in Africa and are here to stay in the Premiership.

What do you have to say about the players’ bonuses?
They deserve it and I am going to deliver on the promise I made. But money is never enough and it is the reason some of us are still working hard.
