Limpopo ANCYL warns residents of Malema Park scam

2010-07-29 09:15

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo today warned residents of Seshego, outside Polokwane, about a Julius Malema Park scam.

“These crooks, who pretend to be community leaders, are robbing our people of their hard-earned money under the pretence of giving them land,” said ANCYL provincial secretary Lebogo Jacob.

“They are collecting money from innocent people, alleging that they are going to allocate stands to them at the (fictitious) Julius Malema Park.”

Jacob said several people had contacted the ANCYL’s office.

“Some are alleging that they paid R500, while others say they paid R200,” said Jacob.

The “community leaders” told residents that they would give them a piece of land at the “Julius Malema Park” in return for money.

“We wish to put on record that the ANCYL and its president have no relationship with these thugs and their illegal project.

“The so-called Julius Malema Park is nothing more than a scam by greedy chances who should be ashamed of themselves for cheating grannies out of their pension money,” said Jacob.

He said the ANCYL had informed the municipality of the scam.

The Limpopo police said they had not received reports about the scam.
