The ANC’s provincial task team (PTT) in Limpopo is in the dog box with the governing party’s national executive committee (NEC).

City Press has learnt that the party’s NEC convener for the province, Ruth Bhengu, is furious with the task team’s alleged plan to dump Polokwane Mayor Freddy Greaver.

In a text message that City Press received from three senior Limpopo politicians, Bhengu – addressing task team chairperson Philemon Mdaka – wrote: “Cde Philemon, I have been made aware of a possible removal of the mayor of Polokwane municipality by the PTT this Friday.

“I am advising you not to implement that decision,” she wrote.

She went on to tell Mdaka she would convene a meeting tomorrow to discuss the “destructive nature” of the task team.

She wrote: “Your PTT has lost focus and is not helpful to the ANC in terms of going to conference as well as winning the elections (in) 2014.”

‘The sooner we act at NEC level the better,” she concluded the message.

Bhengu refused to comment. All she said, in a text message to City Press, was: “You are asking me about an internal matter of the ANC.

I don’t know what position you hold in the ANC that would make you think that you deserve a response from me on internal matters of the ANC.

“I don’t communicate matters of the ANC through the media.”

The PTT was put in place by the ANC NEC in March.

Mdaka and task team spokesperson Sello Lediga failed to respond to calls and text messages from City Press at the time of going to press.
