Limpopo man held after murder over cigarette

2011-12-22 14:21

A man was arrested for killing his friend, apparently during an argument over a cigarette in Mankweng, Limpopo.

The 21-year-old man was caught in Johannesburg yesterday afternoon after a massive search, Constable Moses Molepo said.

He said the man allegedly stabbed Peter Chauke (21) to death at a tavern in Mankweng on Saturday morning.

“The two friends were drinking together when the arrested man asked for a cigarette from Chauke,” Molepo said.

“When Chauke said he had none, they started arguing. The man pulled out a knife and stabbed his friend twice in the chest before running away.”

Chauke died at the Mankweng Hospital two days later.

The man was expected to face a murder charge in the Mankweng Magistrates Court tomorrow.
