Limpopo nominations conference hits snag

2012-12-05 17:16

The ANC’s representatives from the party’s National Executive Committee deployed to monitor the conference are now locked in meetings to try and solve the disputes.

Like last week, President Jacob Zuma’s supporters claim that their names don’t appear on lists despite being elected during branch general meetings to represent their branches.

Unofficial reports say delegates from about 96 branches throughout the province are being excluded, despite having been chosen to represent their branches. Twenty-six of those branches are in Waterberg.

Sam Montana, a member of the Waterberg Regional Executive Committee, said when the delegates of the 26 branches arrived for registration this morning, they found that other people had signed the register next to their names.

“Parallel structures were probably formed. All these branches attended BGMs and chose their delegates. We are now surprised to find other people representing these branches. We are waiting for the dispute resolution team to tell us what is happening.”

Tshepo Makgole, representing the Barney Molokwane branch, which is in ward 1 of the Mokgalakwena Municipality in Waterberg, said: “My name is also there on the list but when I went to sign the register I found that somebody had signed on my behalf.”

Another delegate, also from Waterberg, who didn’t want to be identified, had the same experience. Montana said he was surprised to find the names of delegates whose branches never held BGMs as they didn’t form a quorum.

Another delegate, who didn’t want to be named, from the Molemole sub-region, showed City Press copies of meetings of seven branches’ BGMs and their chosen delegates.

“I can confirm to you that these comrades are not the ones appearing on the list, just because they support Jacob Zuma.”
