Limpopo’s Mathale reshuffles cabinet

2012-03-14 09:00

Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale has finally effected the long-awaited cabinet reshuffle in the province.

SABC board member Clifford Motsepe replaces Soviet Lekganyane as MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.

Motsepe was the department’s head.

Lekganyane was elected as ANC secretary in the province in December, and is now running the party’s provincial headquarters in Polokwane.

Mathale has replaced Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Joyce Mashamba with Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, while Safety and Security MEC George Phadagi has been axed and replaced with Florence Dzhombere, mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality.

Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi has also been axed. She has been replaced with Dr Norman Mabasa, a career doctor and also president of the South African Medical Association.

Roads and Transport MEC Pinky Kekana has been moved to Environment and Tourism.

Pitsi Moloto, formerly with Environment and Tourism, is now heading Roads and Transport.

DA leader in Limpopo Desiree van Der Walt said: “The Democratic Alliance takes note of yesterday’s provincial cabinet reshuffle by Premier Cassel Mathale. Coming on the heels of the recent decision by national to place some Limpopo’s departments under administration, this reshuffle has to be Mathale’s last chance to demonstrate his seriousness about improving his government’s performance.”
