Listen – 702 cans foul-mouthed news reader

2011-09-27 11:50

Listeners who were tuned in to Talk Radio 702’s news bulletin at 1am today were in for a real shock.

Mark Esterhuysen’s early-morning bulletin could be described as a spirited rant heavily laden with profanities.

Please note: This clip contains swearing.

Esterhuysen, whose Twitter bio reads “Enemy of the state. Defender of Anarchy. Proud member of the primate clan. Cunning linguist. Master debater. #fuckthepolice #fuckaffluenza #fuckcivilisation” was soon after fired from the station.

Editor-in-chief of Eyewitness News, Katy Katopodis, tweeted: “Much has been said about the #EWN bulletin in which profanities were used. We apologise, & have terminated the news anchor’s contract.”

Listeners react on Twitter

Twitter has been buzzing with reaction from the public, questions to 702’s management and users sharing the link to the clip.

@matlhole tweeted, “@Radio702 – So what was the point of your censoring now that the link is on twitter? The more you stop people the more they want.”

@mokhathi said: “If the #fucknewsreader #radio702 was employed by SABC @702JohnRobbie and @reditlhabi will be ‘happily’ taking calls.”

@angelo2711 asked: “So is this hate speech or great personal marketing” while @channelmpr believes “this could have been a non-story if #radio702 had immediately named the errant newsreader. Speculation will run story now. #PRadvice”

Esterhuysen tweeted earlier: “Just like Jerry Maguire, I have lost the ability to bullshit. I’ll accept the consequences of it.”
