Local youngsters lively up themselves for Jamaican tour

THIRTY five pupils, from Willowridge High School in Tshwane East,

will embark on a 10-day tour to Jamaica early next year.

This was confirmed by Jamaica’s Minister of Sports, Arts and

Culture Olivia Grange who visited the school on Tuesday.

The tour is an initiative by the school’s head coach and 2006

Commonwealth silver medallist Geraldine Pillay.

Pillay lived and trained in Jamaica about two-and-a-half years ago.

Grange told the youngsters: “You’ll meet some of the fastest young

people in the world. You can depend on our support as we want you to have a

life-changing experience in Jamaica.”

Pillay said: “When I trained and lived in Jamaica, I thought of

youngsters here back home. I am excited that they will share and feel the same

experience that helped me in my development as an athlete.”

Pillay won the 2004 African Championships gold medal.
