Look at our real heritage

Heritage Day has been hijacked by people who either have no idea where this country comes from or don’t care where we are going.

There certainly was a lot of braaiing, which is currently a very important part of our heritage if the mainstream media vibe is anything to go by.

I’ve got nothing against braaiing. I’m a meat eater of note. However, I don’t get what braaiing has to do with this country’s heritage.

Let’s tell our children while having these braais that in this country, education is overrated. These kids are likely to end up on the streets begging, despite their degrees.

Let’s tell our children we should all go to Nkandla and celebrate a R200?million resort that is likely to end up the way the arms deal clearly will.

Now that’s our heritage!

That’s what this country should be celebrating and putting in its archives. If we were not proud of it, we’d never just sit around and talk about it in passing over dinner, only to forget about it and move on with our lives as if nothing had happened.
