‘Losers’ Bafana get R1.3m Chan money

2014-01-22 08:33

Despite crashing out of the African Nations Championship (Chan) at the first hurdle, Bafana Bafana will pocket $125 000 (about R1.35 million) in appearance fees after finishing third in their group.

The prize money for Chan would will total $3.2m (about R34m), says the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

The winner of the tournament would will earn $750 000 (about R8.1m), the runner-up $400 000 (about R4.3m) and the third- and fourth-placed teams will get $250 000 (about R2.7m) each.

The losing quarter finalists will take home $175 000 (about R1.9m) each, the teams placed third in the group stage get $125 000 each, and those placed fourth in the group stage $100 000 (about R1m) each.

The tournament, which is being hosted by South Africa, ends on February 1.
