Bonang Matheba talks about love in her new Revlon commercial, which is part of the global cosmetics brand’s Love is On campaign.

Still on time for Valentine’s Day, the advert shows the softer side of South Africa’s Queen B as she talks about what love means to her.

“Love is … fun. Ting. That’s what happens when Cupid hits. You want to be the reason why they smile, you want to be the reason why they feel giddy inside,” she says.

“...There’s nothing that switches it [love] on ... it just happens to you!”

Matheba said shooting the commercial was a pleasure: “It was a long shoot; we shot for 12 hours, but because it was really me just talking about what love means to me, and it was genuine, it was easy in that way...”

The advert shows a different side to her, she said. “It’s the other side of Bonang ... People are so used to the hardworking, red-carpet glam me, and here I am being soft because I am actually a big softie.”

Asked what she loves at the moment, Matheba says: “Love is so many things to me. It’s also very important to me, especially with my work. I am really loving my work and I always make sure that I love what I do, and I do things I am passionate about. So Revlon, Metro FM, Top Billing, I love them all.”

Her family is also a huge part of what she loves.

“I love my family. We are very close and they are very important to who and what I am.”

Known for her love of fashion, Matheba said: “I’m loving that it’s fashion season again, and I’m also currently loving Mozambican designer Taibo Bacar, who will be dressing me for the Veuve Clicquot Polo event in Cape Town next month.”

“Love is a celebration for me, of yourself, your family, of the things that matter to you,” said the 28-year-old, who bought herself a new Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG for Valentine’s Day, and captioned the picture of her new ride with: “Bought myself a Valentine’s Day gift. Single girl problems.”
