Lupe Fiasco might join the ‘Grandest’

2011-02-19 18:27

Rapper Lupe Fiasco might be joining the already impressive line-up for this year’s edition of the world-class Cape Town Jazz Festival, dubbed “Africa’s Grandest Gathering”.

On the bill already, and the main drawcard, are the band Earth, Wind and Fire from the US, Senegalese singer and percussionist Youssou N’dour, saxophonist Dave Koz, newly crowned Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding and South Africa’s own queen of soul, Simphiwe Dana.

The Bassline stage at the festival has always been known to feature artists and musicians that appeal to a younger market.

In the past, the likes of Freshlyground, Zola, Kabelo (of TKZee) and Mos Def have all graced this stage.

Last year the legendary guru was meant to headline for Bassline.

He was replaced by neo-soul singer Bilal after he pulled out due to health issues.

One of the organisers, who spoke anonymously as the announcement is yet to be made public, has revealed that the negotiations to have Fiasco perform at the festival are in their final stages.

The source said the announcement would be made when the final half of the lineup was revealed.

Having received commercial and critical acclaim with his debut album, Food and Liquor, hip-hop’s poster boy will be a great addition to the festival line-up.
The festival takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on March 25 and 26. Tickets are available at Computicket.?
