MaBrr tribute brings the house down

2010-10-08 12:55

It was a feast for the eyes that brought the masses to the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State at the annual Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe).

The 10-day arts and culture extravaganza saw things picking up when comedians Eugene Khoza, Kagiso Lediga, Loyiso Gola, Siya B and many others performed to a packed venue on Wednesday night and last night.

However, it was the theatre play MaBrr that made a bigger impression. Actress Lesego Motsepe took the audience on a dramatic journey through the life and times of Brenda Fassie.

Said Sefako Mojela, who came all the way from Polokwane for the festival: “That was the most fantastic show I have ever seen! Lesego really did justice to Brenda’s character.”

Durbanite Bongiwe Magubane “nearly cried when she performed the last scene of Brenda dying. I actually want to see this show again.”

With two days to go, most of the shows have been confirmed as sold out, including tonight’s Diva’s Concert, a ladies night with Letta Mbulu, Lira, Wanda Baloyi, Thiwe and The Free State Divas. To get the weekend off to a fun-filled start, a host of local DJs will be taking over the Central University of Technology Sports Ground for the House Estallido party.

DJs and artists include Sox, Dr Duda, Sbu, Teargas, C’ndo, T’Bo Touch, Oskido, Stone, Black Coffee, Kaya, Kent, Zinhle, Glen Lewis, KG Smalls, Liquid Deep, DJ Tira, Fistas, Mixwell and Vetkoek/Mahoota.
