Madiba off to East Cape home

2011-05-23 07:09

Former president Nelson Mandela has travelled to Eastern Cape on a scheduled visit to his home in Qunu, Mthatha, the Presidency said today.

Mandela was said to be resting at home after he travelled yesterday accompanied by family members, security guards and medical personnel, Presidency spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said in a statement.

“We are pleased that he is now well enough to travel,” President Jacob Zuma said.

The Presidency thanked the media for “granting him privacy in the last three months” and urged them to continue to do so.

Madiba was admitted at Joburg’s Milpark Hospital for just more than two days in January for a respiratory infection.

He cast an early ballot in the local government elections on Monday last week and was reported to be looking “healthy and handsome”.
