Madonsela and Mogoeng agree to co-operate

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and Public Protector Thuli Madonsela met in Johannesburg to identify areas of mutual interest, her office said.

Spokeswoman Kgalalelo Masibi said in a statement yesterday that the offices of Madonsela and Mogoeng had overlapping mandates and so would benefit from co-operation.

Madonsela briefed Mogoeng about the type of work she was undertaking and how the judiciary could be of assistance.

“Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, the Public Protector and the Chief Justice agreed that it had been a fruitful engagement and committed themselves to co-operating on matters of mutual interest in the future,” Masibi said.

The meeting was also attended by Justice Yvonne Mokgoro, from the office of the Chief Justice, and members of the Public Protector’s office, including chief executive officer Themba Mthethwa.
